Things that make me uncomfortable & this week’s song

Today’s Blog Everyday in May Challenge topic is to talk about things that make you uncomfortable. I think the biggest thing that makes me uncomfortable is the unknown – I have a love/hate relationship with the unknown, because most of the time, I feel uncomfortable going into a situation that I know little to nothing about,  a person I don’t know very well, or a task I’m unsure about. But, I love change and trying new thing, so I’ve learned how to manage these uncomfortable situations, but when it comes to making big life decisions, it’s at this uncomfortable point that I retreat into the silence of God.

And this song captures how I’ve been feeling lately. With my college graduation coming up, I’m getting ready to close another chapter of my life by taking a moment to dedicate more time to searching out God’s holiness. I don’t even have the words to really express it, so maybe that’s why I love the simplicity and openness of these lyrics.

How to get into law school in 7 steps

Today’s Blog Everyday in May Challenge topic is:

Day 2: Educate us on something you know a lot about or are good at. Take any approach you’d like (serious and educational or funny and sarcastic).

Do you remember this post from last week? I blogged about how I made my decision of which law school to attend. I may not have been accepted (nor did I apply) to any Ivy League schools like Harvard, but I did apply to eleven schools and was accepted to seven of them and wait-listed at the other four. Not bad, considering how competitive this market is!

While applying to law school, I spent an incredible amount of time doing research – interviewing current law students and attorneys, meeting with admissions reps, reading books, blogs and anything else on the topic.

This doesn’t make me an expert, but I’ve acquired quite a bit of knowledge on the topic, and since it’s no longer useful to me, I’d like to pass it on to those who are currently starting this process (many of whom are studying to take the LSAT in one month!!).

250 words.

Graduation is only 17 days away, so with the promise of more free time just mere days away, I’ve decided to join Jenni (and like 500 other bloggers!!!!!) in the Blog Every Day in May challenge. The goal is to return to the good old days of high school English class when you’re given a prompt and are told to just sit down and write. It’s a great way to fit more writing into your life, step out of your comfort zone a bit and participate in the blogging world.

In addition to these posts, I’ll continue my regular blogging. So some days, you may get more than one post. Say what?! :)

Day 1: The story of your life in 250 words or less

I was born in Chernivtsi, Ukraine on August 11, 1991 to the loveliest parents of all – the eldest of 10 kids.

I am enough.

This morning, I ran across this blog post and it was like salve on an open wound. Therefore, I have to share these words, not only with you, but with myself – I need to write them out, carefully and in deep thought. Memorize them and etch them in my memory for future reference in those moments when comparison does steal all my joy.

How I got accepted into 7 law schools & then had to choose just one…

IMG_1351

You know that moment? When you stretch a rubber band to its max and you can just feel that if you stretch it for even a fraction more, it will snap in two? That’s the moment God loves to work in most. In our human terms, it’s the point where you rest your hands in defeat, acknowledging there is no way that you can humanely solve the problem any more.

After months of tension, God took me to that moment one Friday, not long ago. April 5 by 5:00 pm…that was the deadline by which I had to make $250 non-refundable deposit to the law school I plan to attend. If I didn’t, I would lose my seat in the incoming class as they began to pull applicant from their waiting lists.

Song of my heart: 10,000 Reasons by Matt Redman

Picture 6

It’s been one of those weeks – you know when you’re so busy, that even after working from sunrise to sunset, it still feels like nothing was accomplished? But, I end this week with a grateful heart, because despite the busy-ness, stress and life’s little hiccups, my heart still feels full and grateful. And that’s not how I normally feel after a week like this…which means, God is changing my heart. And that makes my soul sing and it gives me strength to keep moving, keep working, keep fighting and believing. He is my strength and I am humbled by His grace. And this song by Matt Redman captures my feelings word for word.

You’re more beautiful than you think.

Have you seen the latest video Dove released just a few days ago for the Real Beauty campaign? In just three days, it’s already gotten over 1 million hits!

This video brings up an important point about the power of perception. Especially that as women we are often are our own worst critics. We tend to harp on our weaknesses until they consume us – every time we look in the mirror, we automatically pay attention to the feature we dislike most and everything else about us pales in comparison.
