Sometimes, I think it takes more confidence to wear modest clothing than something revealing, because then it means you care enough about yourself to go against the status-quo.

In a society so driven by jeans/t-shirt/yoga pants and short dresses, dressing modestly is hard. Not just because of the peer pressure, but also because it’s so difficult to find affordable and yet still cute modest clothes. Anyone else in the same boat?

Defining modesty can be difficult, and I’m working on a separate post about what it means to dress modestly. Until then, here’s one of my style muses – Ulyana Segeenko, a Russian fashion designer, whose style is the essence of her brand. From her hoop-like skirts and feminine head coverings, to the red lipstick, to me, she is the the perfect example of how to dress like a woman.

“When I appeared on the scene a few years ago, a lot of people laughed at me. I have a really recognizable and maybe a funny style. My long skirts—really, people laughed. But now a lot of people, they ask their stylists, ‘Make me absolutely like Ulyana.’ We have lots of people in clothes similar to my skirts. We have now a lot of Russian designers who are producing similar skirts and dresses. Not a long time ago, it was very funny and people were laughing. Now they are wearing it.” -Ulyana Sergeenko in an interview on Style.com

Now, if only I could have the guts to dress like this every day!

What do you think? Would you wear any of the pieces below?

“Beauty is the light that shines out from inside you. When you hold someones gaze, you can see it. Everybody has it, it is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen.” – Sue Bryce

“There are two ways of spreading light. To be the candle, or the mirror that reflects it.” – Edith Wharton

Today didn’t start off so well – it was just one of those mornings when it takes every ounce of self-control to get out of bed, fighting the regrets that once again I stayed up too late. And then there is abosolutely nothing to wear, because when I look in the mirror all I could see were the imperfections. Those delays caused me to be a few minutes late to work, where a long to-do list made me want to do the mature thing and hide under my desk (which I did not, of course!). And all that happened before 8 a.m. So yes, it was one of those mornings.

And then I saw this video, and it kind of put things into perspective.

This is not a story about cancer. This is a story about love, and it’s a story for all. – Sue Bryce

Whoa. This video humbled me. I can’t imagine going through something like this. Even yesterday’s post about accepting hardships as blessings sounds inadequate. I’ve never seen someone close to me go through cancer, and I thank God for the health of myself and family all the time. But, I need to do it every day, every moment. And stop complaining about the little things that really don’t matter in the grand scheme of things.

So, please take a moment to watch the video above and learn more about the project on Sue’s website. And, here are the results from the photo shoot! Stunning.

PS. Bear with me as I try out a few different themes on the blog – can’t seem to settle on one I adore enough to keep around. :/

Betty in Paris

So you know how I have this slight obsession with Paris? Well, Carin from Four Months in Paris keeps posting the cutest videos {and the most gorgeous photos of her everyday life in Paris!}.

This film is even more adorable than the last and takes you on a tour of all the highlights of Paris. Enjoy! :)

PS. Three video posts in a row – beautiful videos, but I promise I’ll get a post up this weekend with photos from yet another task I’ve checked off the 101 in 1001 list. Hint: number 41.
