Meet Lisa Nicole Bell - “a social change agent contained in the mind of a visionary, the heart of a an artist, and the spirit of an entrepreneur.” I first met Lisa when she spoke at the CEO National Conference in Chicago last month – her keynote speech was all sorts of informative and inspirational, so of course, I had to meet her and pepper her with questions on career goals, entrepreneurship and life in general.
The thing that probably most intrigues me about Lisa is the amount of tasks she juggles in her job – she’s a published author, international speaker, filmmaker, entrepreneur, marketing and social media guru and media personality (and that’s just the beginning of her accomplishments)! She started her first company at nineteen (I couldn’t even decide on a major at that age), and is currently the CEO of Inspired Life Media Group based in Los Angeles, California.
So, without further ado, here’s Lisa:
What was your first job out of college? How did you land it?
My first job out of college was working for myself. I started a small business while in college and continued to work as an entrepreneur after college.
What qualities would you say are essential to do the job you do?
The most important qualities to succeed in a role like mine are communication, leadership, and problem solving. I sometimes joke and say that I’m a professional problem solver because so much of my job entails creating viable solutions.
As the CEO and founder of your company, your responsibilities are endless. Take us through a day in your life. What kind of schedule and hours do you keep, and how do you manage to balance non-work related activities with such high demands?
Every day in my life is different and I love it that way! I balance non-work activities by carving out time and making appointments. So, I have workouts scheduled the way I would an important business appointment. I think it’s super important to take care of yourself as an entrepreneur. There are a lot of deadlines and demands at any given time, but I believe you can’t serve from an empty vessel.
Best moment of your career so far?
The best moment of my career so far has been getting incredible feedback from people around the world. I am motivated by the impact my work has on people so hearing how my work impacts people is immensely inspiring and motivating.
How did you build your brand from the ground up? After you decided this is what you wanted to do, what were the first steps you took to make it a reality?
I built my brand by clarifying my vision, differentiating myself from other people who were similar, and working hard toward the goals I set. The first steps I took to make my goals a reality were reading voraciously and studying people who were successful at the time things I wanted to do.
What advice would you give to your 21-year-old self?
Fail faster and fail forward.
